Coming June 28th on Sunnyside Records...
Recorded in Paris in August, 2018, Udden returns as a leader with an unencumbered trio set, playing originals and covers by Steve Lacy, Don Cherry, and Billy Strayhorn. Paying homage to his mentor, Steve Lacy, Udden enlisted veteran drummer John Betsch (Lacy, Pharoah Sanders, Dewey Redman, Mal Waldron), with whom Udden had performed in New York back in 2003.
“Small Man - Big Sound!”
- THE MONITOR, Kampala, Uganda
"With his beautiful, round soprano tone, the saxophonist Udden lends a haunting sheen to tunes spanning the soothingly melodic to the jaggedly free."
- MODERN DRUMMER
“His sound is unearthly...”
"Although he’s a super jazz saxophonist, [Udden] openly embraces the rock, folk, and country sounds he heard in his youth… The more difficult Udden’s music becomes to classify, the better it seems to get.”
